At the end of the day is what some people think is a fairly overused saying, but sometimes it covers the situation. Whatever you may think of Bin Laden and Afghanistan you really need to work out what their position was that led to their actions. It would take a fairly obstinate person to disregard that central to their position was the US and later Allied presence in the Middle East. Particularly in the historical setting of the hideous behaviour of the British and others going all the way back to the Crusades. Then on top of all this for various reasons the United Nations saw fit at the stroke of a pen to give half or more of Palestine to form the Jewish State of Israel. But to the Zionists that was not nearly enough, people like Ben Gurion, Moshe Dayan and many many others sought to extend the area through different means, all unlawful, and then to build a wall on the very land they had taken to mark out the extent of their latest conquests.
Much has been written about the plight of the Arabs yet most of the world greets all this with what must be, to the Arabs, an unbearable silence. Therein lie the seeds of at least discontent and you may think quite rightly so. The imperial project basically takes no prisoners unless it suits it like at Gitmo. The previous reference to Dayan should remind you about the eulogy he gave referred to on this site where he said with honesty that those oin Israel need look no further than themselves as the authors of the Arabs problems but what was needed was a steely reserve despite this initial position and a continuation of the original activity. That activity like the settlements, the land grab and other matters were of course and still are unlawful. You may also gather from the extent of opinion referred to on this page that there are a lot of different views. People who look at the Arab position with sympathy and compassion are not just nut cases on day leave from an asylum. You may very well think that position relates to people with other views.
