This a very good article by Ramzy Baroud. He deals with the Goldstone turn around and adds some very useful insight. Very much to the point Baroud makes the following observation, “In fact, Israel is known for investigating itself, and also for almost always finding everyone but its own leadership at fault. Israeli investigations are an obvious mockery of justice. Most of their findings, like those that followed another investigation of the Israeli war on Lebanon in 2006, merely chastised the failure to win the war and to explain Israeli action to the world. They said little about looking into the death and wounding of innocent civilians. Is this what Goldstone meant when he used the words, “if I had known then what I know now”? And could this added knowledge about Israel’s secret — and largely farcical — investigations be enough to draw such extreme conclusions such as “civilians were not intentionally targeted as a matter of policy”?
The world according to Israel contains nothing but a sounding board for their ideas and practices. We must all accept what they say because if you do not then they are prepared to unleash a hateful campaign against you, accuse you of being anti semitic and a supporter of terrorists. If you wish to look at a view on the point of what Israel does in Gaza and Palestins try reading this, ”
Let us not cast the blame on the murderers today. Why should we declare their burning hatred for us? For eight years they have been sitting in the refugee camps in Gaza, and before their eyes we have been transforming the lands and the villages, where they and their fathers dwelt, into our estate.
It is not among the Arabs in Gaza, but in our own midst that we must seek Roi’s blood. How did we shut our eyes and refuse to look squarely at our fate, and see, in all its brutality, the destiny of our generation? Have we forgotten that this group of young people dwelling at Nahal Oz is bearing the heavy gates of Gaza on its shoulders?
Beyond the furrow of the border, a sea of hatred and desire for revenge is swelling, awaiting the day when serenity will dull our path, for the day when we will heed the ambassadors of malevolent hypocrisy who call upon us to lay down our arms.” Those words were spoken by Moshe Dayan as part of a funeral eulogy.
In a radio broadcast of opinion in Sydney today a commentator declared that Israel was the only functioning democracy in the Middle East. That of course if you believe as this person does that creating the world’s largest open air prison is part of a functioning democracy. He was vehemently of the view that the Palestinians were in some way all part of 1,500 rockets a year being fired at Israel. There is grave doubt that that figure is anything like correct, but assume it is, then where does that leave Israel. Are they so democratic that they are justified in the use of white phosphorous against the civilian population of Gaza. Does that also extend to shooting children who dare to get within a no go zone near their beautiful wall that makes anything the East Germans built look like the left overs from a Lego kit. Where does that leave a young Jewish lady like Anna Baltzer who linked arms with Palestinians as they faced a deluge from a water cannon, and the same action by an 80 year old Uri Avnery. The Zionist fairy tales abound but they are unmistakenly the product of hatred for the Palestinians and a supreme belief in their being chosen to be in Israel.
