Palestine and Shame

October 19, 2009

The Goldstone Report continues the assault on Israel’s attitude to criticism and exposure. In an informative article Ramzy  Baroud the Editor of the Palestine Chronicle keeps up the pressure on those Israeli elements who feel that Israel has nothing at all to answer for. This comment is very appropriate, The level of barbarity in that war, especially as it was conducted against a poor, defenseless and physically trapped nation, united people of every color, race and religion.Ikners.com a Joomla site

The attitude of the PA, (Palestine Authority) leader and others in not supporting the Report at first was at least distressing. But it also showed the level of or the lack of a level of commitment on the part of the PA.

Baroud notes his dismay when he asks,” How could a leader of an occupied and suffering nation commit such a ‘mistake’, deferring an urgent vote and discussion on a report pertaining to the death of over 1,400 people, the maiming and wounding of thousands more, to a later date, six months from today?

Events since this comment have seen the PA change its course, but the initial response was so fraught with absurdity that Baroud’s response was surely correct.  While different views may explain the attitude Baroud noted comments by,” Amira Hass of Haaretz opined, “The chronic submissiveness is always explained by a desire to ‘make progress.’ But for the PLO and Fatah, progress is the very continued existence of the Palestinian Authority, which is now functioning more than ever before as a subcontractor for the IDF, the Shin Bet security service and the Civil Administration.”

The closing comments in the article are very well worth reading. I have provided this link to the article.
